Outlets and Switches

Outlets and Switches

Do you have any outlets or switches that are not working in your home or business? Do any of your light fixtures flicker or hard to come on when you hit the switch? If so you have come to the right place. John's Electric has replaced thousands of outlets and switches in homes and local business in the Birmingham.

One of our biggest complaints that we hear is that “we don’t have enough outlets. We have power strips everywhere and our breakers trip.”

Did you know that receptacles or outlets are also referred to as convenient outlets? Convenient outlets are called convenient outlets because if you have enough in the right places: then they are convenient and accessible to the user.

Did you know according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission that electrical outlets have been said to cause 5,300 fires on a yearly basis? The reason why is because there are not enough outlets and the outlets that are available are overloaded. Most homeowners will have a duplex receptacle and install a seven plug power strip or sometimes two strips. In most cases that duplex receptacle is being shared with other duplex receptacles around the house. When this happens, circuits get overloaded and are more prone to catch on fire.

Electrical Outlet and Switch Installation and Repair

You may have plenty of outlets in your home but do they all work correctly. Do have any problems with your receptacles and switches.

We have found many reasons why outlets burn out and have caused a fire and below are just a few reasons:

  • Wired incorrectly
  • Loose connections
  • Back Stabbed
  • Circuit has been overloaded

Over time, existing receptacles can deteriorate and become damaged just from frequent use. When outlets go bad, they need to be replaced by a qualified electrician.

So whether you need more receptacles, or you just need a small repair, call John's Electric today, not matter how small or large the job is, we can take care of it for you today!

Does my main water line need replacing?

Tuesday, June 13, 2017

While commonly taken for granted, the fresh water coming into your home or business is crucial to your daily life. The main water line that carries the fresh water is typically very durable and built to last. However, several factors cause breakage in the line. Commonly, these factors include corrosion, tree roots, or just the type of plumbing pipe used when the home or commercial building was built.

Spring is the perfect time for an electrical safety inspection

Tuesday, May 16, 2017

Electrical circuitry and panels tend to get ignored throughout the year and only get addressed when you experience a short circuit or electrical trips. As a homeowner, you may not know everything involved in the electrical circuitry of your home but there are still some questions you should ask your electrical inspector and Spring is the perfect time to do it!

No matter the size of the job, from changing out old electrical paneling to major renovations to your home or property, you should always ask your electrical inspector whether or not your home’s electrical fittings are up to date and in compliance with current regulations and building codes.

Secondly, be sure your electrical inspector pays attention to the safety of your electrical panel and makes sure that they are properly insulated to avoid electrical shock. Panels must also never be placed near damp or wet areas.

Understanding your electrical consumption is also important. Washing machines, televisions and air conditioners consume significant amounts of electricity, and it is your responsibility as the homeowner to be sure they are connected to the right circuitry to avoid electrical shorts or fluctuations in voltage.

Lastly, once the inspection is completed and any necessary repairs made, have your inspector run a double check to be sure all of your electrical circuitry is working properly. Ask your inspector to provide you with a complete report of all inspections and repairs done.
