Electrical Panel Upgrades

Electrical Panel Upgrades

Has an insurance adjuster told you that they wouldn't write you an insurance policy because of your electrical panel?

Would you like to add a piece of machinery in your garage for your favorite hobby, whether it be wood working or working on cars, but your current electrical panel is all filled up?

Whether you have an old unsafe panel or a small panel, you may need to have a new panel upgrade done by John's Electric.

Some signs that you may need a panel upgrade are flickering lights and breakers that trip constantly.

So what is an electrical panel? Think of your electrical panel as the heart of your electrical system. If your panel (heart) were to stop working, then you would have a big problem on your hands.

All the power that comes into your home originates from the utility department first, then to your electric service. From there it goes to your electric panel (heart). From there, electricity is distributed in wires to different locations providing you power where you need it most.

You may not have a panel with circuit breakers; you may have an outdated fuse box or even worse an electrical panel that has lost its UL approval because they have been proven to cause fires.

There a couple of manufacturers that went out of business because they were forced to close by UL because they made inferior products. Unfortunately, many of these panels and breakers are in thousands of homes.

Circuit breakers are designed to shut off quickly if there is ever a problem. (A fraction of a second) This keeps you and your family safe from electrocution, electric shock, and house fires. With the old-style breakers, some of them will not trip under a test load for at least one minute; some did not trip (turn off) at all.

Problems arise from electrical panels for many reasons. We will list just a few below:

  1. Loose connections
  2. Burnt connections
  3. Double tapped circuits
  4. Old Outdated Fuses
  5. Not UL approved

Unfortunately, we have seen just that in many of the homes around Birmingham. If your home is in need of a panel upgrade, then call John's Electric today. We will send one of our highly qualified safety electricians to your home and give you a compete for evaluation.

By having a new panel or load center installed in your home, it will ensure that you’re getting the most out of your home’s electrical system and help avoid electrical hazards and that is what it’s about. Keeping your loved ones safe.

John's Electric offers a NO QUESTIONS ASKED, 5 YEAR WARRANTY on material and labor for all electrical panel upgrades.

Does my main water line need replacing?

Tuesday, June 13, 2017

While commonly taken for granted, the fresh water coming into your home or business is crucial to your daily life. The main water line that carries the fresh water is typically very durable and built to last. However, several factors cause breakage in the line. Commonly, these factors include corrosion, tree roots, or just the type of plumbing pipe used when the home or commercial building was built.

Spring is the perfect time for an electrical safety inspection

Tuesday, May 16, 2017

Electrical circuitry and panels tend to get ignored throughout the year and only get addressed when you experience a short circuit or electrical trips. As a homeowner, you may not know everything involved in the electrical circuitry of your home but there are still some questions you should ask your electrical inspector and Spring is the perfect time to do it!

No matter the size of the job, from changing out old electrical paneling to major renovations to your home or property, you should always ask your electrical inspector whether or not your home’s electrical fittings are up to date and in compliance with current regulations and building codes.

Secondly, be sure your electrical inspector pays attention to the safety of your electrical panel and makes sure that they are properly insulated to avoid electrical shock. Panels must also never be placed near damp or wet areas.

Understanding your electrical consumption is also important. Washing machines, televisions and air conditioners consume significant amounts of electricity, and it is your responsibility as the homeowner to be sure they are connected to the right circuitry to avoid electrical shorts or fluctuations in voltage.

Lastly, once the inspection is completed and any necessary repairs made, have your inspector run a double check to be sure all of your electrical circuitry is working properly. Ask your inspector to provide you with a complete report of all inspections and repairs done.

Mr. Teele arrived quickly, diagnosed our outage problem and fixed it that same afternoon. We have an older electrical system that many other electricians simply won't work with. But Mr. Teele confidently made repairs and even called to check on us the next day to ensure all was working well.
